Guidelines For Preparation Of Emergency Communication Plan For Business

By Christine Stone

As a business administrator, it remains your responsibility to ensure that the office operations run smoothly on a daily basis. But what will happen when disaster strikes? For you to be well prepared for any emergency like a fire or natural disasters, you must have a practical plan in place. When things are falling apart when a crisis strikes in the business, the managers have to maintain calm while solving it. As such, you need to prepare for an emergency communication plan for business at the start of the business because you never know when a calamity will strike.

Many business owners fear to invest in something different things apart from their products. When they hear about making a communication plan for their employees they go berserk knowing that it will cost them a fortune. However, this is just a myth because printing out contact numbers and designating a single room as a base for emergency operations costs nothing significant.

Before you rent out a business space, you must take a look at whether it has functional exit and access doors that will not fail at the last minute. Additionally, the rental space should have fire detectors and alarms that will sound the levels of carbon monoxide immediately start rising. Ensure that you have some medications, stored water and a place to put non-perishable foods in case you are hit by a crisis.

When alarms start signaling in a business area, people start running towards the doors without caring whether they are exit or access doors. They struggle to get through blocking themselves due to the rush hence causing injuries to others. However, this can be mitigated by writing an exit plan or a way to the emergency room in every doorstep to avoid the stampede.

When there is a crisis, people rush into calling their loved ones hence wasting valuable time and airtime that they could have used in calling a disaster rescue team. To enhance ease of communication and achieve a faster rescuing mission, be sure to print and post an emergency number within the premises and outside your geographical coverage. All employees should have the number s at their disposal and request for help when necessary.

When admitting new employees to your business, you need to take in important information from them. Prepare an emergency card for each of them that should be carried along with their badges. In the card include their medical history, blood group, allergies and your disaster contact number. As such, it will be very easier for people to assist them in case they are stranded or injured and need medical help.

Stored food and medication for a crisis may get spoilt without knowing. To ensure that it remains safe and ready and you need to carry a refreshment course to all your employees on how to take emergency measure. They can practice every step hence ensuring that they will not be caught off guard and get confused when a crisis hits the premises.

Most emergencies are not solved immediately, and it takes several hours before people can help you out. Therefore, it is advisable that you prepare a seventy-two hours emergency bag. Some of the times should be featured in this bag include food, battery, water, a flashlight, and a power radio among others.
