Reasons Why Tony Chavis Is Running For Sheriff

By Arthur Moore

When it comes to elections, there are often local, regional and national candidates. Tony Chavis is one of the lucky few to be running for Sheriff in Darlington County. At the age of 48, and having a home in Hartsville, many believe that this man is right for the job. While this is the case, there are also other candidates in the race.

A retired patrolman, Tony worked for the South Carolina Highway patrol until retiring in 2016. As the candidate hopes to become Sheriff, the former trooper is now hoping to obtain votes in local elections. To do so, the candidate will need as many votes as possible as the race is being challenged by others in the race.

As a loving husband and father of five, discipline is nothing new in the Tony's household. Being the son of the late James and Audrey Chavis, the former patrol office is well known to family, friends and community. While a dedicated family member, friend and neighbor, the candidate often worked extended hours when working for the highway patrol.

In early life, Tony graduated from Wallace High School, then played football for South Carolina State University. After which, Mr. Chavis graduated from the S. C. Academy of Justice. While this is the case, Tony has continued with educational goals, thus resulting in several certifications in the area of law enforcement.

Tony served in the U. S. Marines for a year in the early 1990s. It remains unclear as to why the service ended after only one year's time. Still, Mr. Chavis is considered a veteran of Operation Desert Storm regardless of discharge status. If voters want to know more about this service, a public records search on the candidate will most likely return these results.

Other activities and interests include a strong presence in community and supporting a number of non-profit organizations. With a strong sense of civil duty, the candidate has often donated large amounts of money to various charities over the years. In fact, often being the first to donate to various charities on many occasions.

One thing that sets this candidate apart from others is the belief that positive changes can be made if elected. School children are of specific interest. For, the candidate believes that crime is often based in communities in which children and police have no connection. If elected, Tony will continue with presentations currently being made at local schools and universities on a regular and on-going basis.

The candidate has always seen community as the first line of defense against crime. Whether through neighbor watch groups, security systems, web cameras, or stronger police presence, Mr. Chavis believes these and other processes have a great potential to reduce crime. In areas more prone to criminal activity, the candidate believes placing bicycle, foot and other patrols will also result in more arrests.

Always focused on law enforcement, community and education, the former highway patrol officer wants to continue to strengthen ties between residents and police. In addition, the belief that partnering with community organizations, businesses and other agencies is impressive to a number of voters. As such, it is these people the candidate hopes will get to the polls and vote in local elections this coming November.
