Why Veteran Stories Are Important To Our History

By Margaret Schmidt

Outfits connected to the military, local and state governments, and even the American government are now cooperating to give good unit and individual coverage for people who have participated in military operations or wars. These people have given much, defending the freedom and rights, and especially live of Americans everywhere. They provide protection to all the national institutions and symbols.

Wars have always meant hard times for all Americans. The entire country pulls together its resources, are united in providing morale to the troops, and will do everything short of being on the frontlines to see that they survive. After the battle, veterans are party to a support network and need to have their stories compiled by Veteran Stories College Station TX.

Lately, people have woken up to the needs of combat veterans to have their stories officially recorded and preserved by the relevant organizations. All veterans have great individual stories that need to be told or at least taken down for the future. The veterans of olders wars like World War I are getting fewer and fewer each day.

Preserving the stories of combat veterans, for those who participate in the effort on the city College Station TX, means preserving the memories of all veterans. They concentrate on veterans who live around the Brazos Valley and surrounding areas. The are now aware that since earlier efforts were nonexistent for older wars, many lives and memories have been unrecorded.

One of the leading institutions that has lead the drive for better and more comprehensive records of the lives of soldiers is the Smithsonian Institute, together with national libraries and other archival entities. In the state of Texas, there have been so many heroic stories that have been lost from those who were not given to discuss them. The times now require that they need to be interviewed and talked to.

Most everyone knows somebody who has served in the armed services. Some may know one who is alive or actively serving. For anyone concerned, it is the constant need for democracy to be defended at any price that is the abiding belief. New studies made for the Vietnam War has provided greater insight into the motivations of veterans.

What with recent events related to the American effort in the War Against Terror, there has been a collected effort by military historians and psychologists to every personal history to be collated for military archives. One of the main reasons is to know how to make the civilian lives of combat veterans ultimately better. Also, good archiving is a way to learn everything that can be learned in terms of lessons that might lessen the possibilities of war.

It is not merely the statues and memorials that make everyone honor or cherish the memories of those who have fought. Most of these have already died a long time ago, or died on the battlefield. Now, the main thrust of the effort has been to honor and dignify those who have made the sacrifice of fighting but have survived to tell the tale.

What every American should be doing is to study the lives of soldiers more so that they will know how to deal with veterans. These are people in high need of encouragement and inspiration, and should not keep quiet about the horrors they have seen. Keeping silent might be a false heroism except for those who participated in classified operations. Ultimately, the histories of all soldiers can be of better use when they are opened up for people to learn from.
