Eco-Sexuality And Pagan Poetry Ideas Thoughts

By Maria Hamilton

When it comes to poets, most are rather reclusive. Although, there are others whom love to get out to open mics, slams and festivals. For those whom do wish to publish quietly from home, sites such as Poetry Soup dot com and Writer's Cafe dot org can both provide great Pagan Poetry Ideas Thoughts and inspiration.

With regards as to how many people in open-mic and slam audiences can relate to this type of poetry, this probably depends on the area in which one lives. Most audiences will most likely have a clear understanding of pagan aspects in poetry as most is, like paganism, based in nature. As such, anyone reading poetry with pagan themes in public need have an open mind as most pagan poets prefer others to do so as well.

Poets attending open-mics often assume audiences will see readings related to paganism as narrow minded and ahistorical which is rarely the case. For, themes related to Neo-Paganism tend to blend different aspects of life which can relate to all audiences regardless of belief systems. In fact, pagan poetry has often been known to elevate the divine and human experience of life through poetic readings and writings.

In most cases, paganism brings with it a resistance to form and a distrust of aesthetics, aspects which are often inspirational to authors, poets, fiction and non-fiction writers regardless of religious beliefs. In addition, as most poems of this nature intentionally lack structure and clarity, it can often be hard for some individuals to decipher the meaning behind the words, especially when it comes to Haikus or shorter pieces.

There is also a sense of ambivalence and curiosity related to the history of paganism with people believing or not believing in different Gods, Goddesses, mythological creatures and events. Whereas, Ronald Hutton, one poet has tried to reveal cultural and literary norms through poetry and writing though has yet failed to do so.

While some bloggers and writers have suggested paganism is less than a century old, this is just wrong. For, paganism has actually been around since the beginning of time. Whereas, if talking about neo-paganism, then the practice is much more varied and yes, newer than old school paganism.

Granted these bloggers do make sense and some good points about Wicca being out of the limelight as it has been in the past. While this is the case, the wisdom and knowledge associated with Wicca can often be inspirational to pagan poets and others. As such, the inclusion of poly-theology and neo-paganism in different writings has the ability to help these beliefs and practices once again take shape in the modern world.

Most poets working in the area of paganism, Wicca or other neo-pagan belief systems use a great deal of metaphor. For, many believe it is an art form which has been greatly reduced over the years. Whereas, erotica is also big in poetry related to nature in which many poets, knowingly or otherwise are now revealing a new and exciting aspect of the world known as eco-sexuality.
