A Guide On How To Connect A High End Speaker Wire

By Henry Thompson

Majority of the speakers that are bought from the stores do not come along with speaker wires. Individuals are therefore required to have an idea on the kind of wires available in the market and how they function. The right kind of high end speaker wire should therefore have the standard thickness and be able to fit well into the system.

These wires can either come along with connectors or may have none at all. When there is need for an outdoor connection, it is necessary to purchase wires that are fitted to be buried directly into the ground. On the other hand, for the speakers that are to be located within the house ceiling or walls are required to be UL-rated and should be labelled either CL2 or CL3.

The varying thickness of wires are rated by analyzing the American Wire Gauge numbers written on the lines. Depending on the level of thickness, the values inscribed range between number twelve and eighteen. A cable is considered to be thick if it has a lower gauge value. A lower value further means that the resistance of current flow is less.

As a result of the varying functions of speakers, a couple of sizes of wires are needed during a connection. In instances where applications have high power or have long runs, thicker lines are used. On the other hand, applications with shorter runs use lines that have high gauge values meaning they are thinner. Work is therefore made easier and less cost is incurred.

In order to identify the amount of cable that is needed for connection, a string should be used to measure the distance between the receiver and where the speakers are to be located. The string length is then measured and an extra length is added to ensure an easier connection. Furthermore, the extra length is to avoid problems that may result from any error that might occur.

The two or four conductors are often located in the wires that are placed within a wall during connection. Only a single cable is required when it has a four conductor and is used to place a connection between a receiver and a volume controller. Once that is complete, a two conductor cable is then used to connect a couple of speakers in the room to the volume controller. The stereo-input rated speakers work well with four conductor cables.

In addition, having a good connection of speakers can be achieved through rightly connecting the positive and negative leads found in the speakers and receiver. If the negatives and positives are wrongly connected, then the sound produced would not be of good quality. It is advisable to use line strippers so as to avoid any bare strands that may result to short circuiting.

The terminals of the speaker wires are also a vital part that should not be ignored. Speakers contain two different terminals are known as spring clips and binding posts. The spring clips are the easiest to use since they accept both the pin connectors and the bare wires. However binding posts are better when there is need for a solid connection.
