Job Description Of A Voiceover Artist Atlanta

By Larry Harris

When seeking a particular voice for a commercial, television show, movie or Public Service Announcement on a radio station, a number of agents turn to Voices.com and similar websites. Whereas, a Voiceover Artist Atlanta can also find a number of opportunities on these websites. As such, most of those offering such opportunities host a number of lessons as well as opportunities in the marketplace.

Often known as voice actors, off-stage talent or narrators, these individuals read material from a script into a microphone. During the process, the material is recorded, then added to a project during the editing phase of a project. While this is the case, there are also projects in which these individuals provide live dialogue during the production of a film or television show.

New opportunities have arisen over the last several years due to the rising interest in the telecommunications and gaming industry. For, a number of companies such as Amazon and Google now have products which require voice over talent. In addition, the video game industry has a great need for this type of talent in order to add gaming instructions, voices and avatars to different games and characters.

Most information provided at tourist attractions such as amusement parks, historical sites, museums and zoos are pre-recorded. Whereas, concerts and sporting events also tend to have recorded messages throughout the event. One of the most well known areas in which this type of talent is used is in adding a voice track to the memorial section at the annual Emmy and Oscar Awards.

While voiceover work is prominent in the film and television industry, voice acting should not be confused with film captioning or dubbing. For, in captioning a text block is provided in different languages from the original sound track. Whereas, while dubbing is actually a form of voice acting, it is often at the bottom of the list when it comes to work preferred by these voice artists.

Narrators such as the one whom provided the sound track for Herman Melville's Moby Dick are also considered voice actors or artists. In most cases, individuals providing this type of narration are reading directly from a script to a recorded track which is added to the project at a later date. Whereas, there have been some book to film projects in which the individuals have read directly from the novel on which the film is being based.

One of the most exciting areas in which to work as a voice over artist is in providing a personality to animated or Claymation characters and puppets through voice work. Some of the most famous of these individuals whom have contributed voices to fictional characters include, June Foray, Paul Frees, Don Messick, Daws Butler and Mel Blanc. Whereas, when it comes to puppets, Jim Henson has always been considered one of the best voice over artists in the field. All of which have provided voices for different characters over time.

Due to past controversy, it is often preferred that voice over talent be used to add a voice to characters of the same race. While this is the case, there are now far more diverse artists working in the area of film, radio, television, stage and other industries than in the past. As such, casting agents, directors and producers can now often find talent of the same gender and race to provide the proper dialogue.
