WW3 Scenarios: Occurrences That Are Highly Probable

By George Campbell

Without a doubt, war is never a nice thing to spend time thinking about. With the horrors witnessed in the last two world wars, no one wants to imagine the possibility of a third one. However, chances of this happening are not too far fetched. As more and more countries seek to consolidate their power in their regions, the reality of war is real. Here are a few things that may make ww3 scenarios different from what the world is used to.

Besides all possibilities, nuclear warfare holds top honors. This is so despite the fact that it has remained an unused option since the Second World War. The United States used it against the Japanese in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the only reported deployment so far. Nuclear weapons leave lasting effects on the nations that fall victim to it.

The number of countries with nuclear capabilities has risen, making such warfare a future possibility. Countries regarded as rogue continue to face sanctions on the world stage as a result of their nuclear stockpiles. Military pundits are of the view that were opposing camps to use nuclear arms at war, mutual destruction would take place.

Online warfare may also spike. Lately, the IT industry has noted a spike in the number of cyber attacks from nations that were once considered unskilled in the field. With ease of access to hacking manuals today, the trend of state sponsored cyber attacks is unlikely to end. So serious is the issue that it has been labeled cyber terrorism by some.

These days, critical systems such as electrical grids and water supply plants rely on computer networks to operate. Chances are such systems will be the target of state sponsored hacking should war begin. The economic ramifications of denying citizens access to water and electricity can be undeniably crippling. Opposing countries may target such networks in a bid to cause civil unrest and disrupt electronic communications.

Adversaries may also engage in advanced air and naval combat. The capabilities displayed by the aircraft and naval vessels that most countries use today surpass those of the past. Wealthy nations continue to spend a fortune purchasing stealth aircraft and naval vessels. Some countries are even engaged in plans to equip their fighter jets and submarines with highly advanced payloads. If such plans go on as planned, the payloads from single missions may be capable of obliterating whole cities at once. Nowadays, stealth technology has made it possible for pilots and submarine captains to go deep behind enemy lines unnoticed.

Robotics and advancement in munitions may make war even deadlier. Over the last few years, there has been a significant amount of hype surrounding robotics. Contractors in the defense industry keep developing human like robots. Soon enough, armies may consist of robotic units, similar to what is witnessed in video games.

Weapon systems also keep advancing. Some guns can actually fire precision guided projectiles. What is more, cruise missiles can travel thousands of miles to their designated targets these days. If technology keeps getting integrated into modern warfare, battles may be worn on other metrics besides the number of soldiers in future.
