By Christine Evans

A recent study has shown that most of the children may be able to read at a very young age than we were made to believe. We no longer have to wait for the kids to reach 4-5 years to begin. It is said that the children can easily pick up on words and sounds which they encounter frequently. By the caregivers of young children having this knowledge for beginning readers for kindergarten; they can use it to their advantage.

It has already been established that the childs mastery is higher on frequently seen words therefore the tutor needs to be armed with the right tools. Sight words are the most fundamental. These are simple structured words that are easy to grasp. Words like look, sit, run, jump are all in this category. The words can be written in flash card and given at intervals to the kids.

The tutor should put emphasis on the phonetics rather than the actual letter. Learning the sounds associated with each letter may lead to the child being able to read more words which at a glance may be unfamiliar to them. Along with this the child will able to grasp some basic rules concerning silent letters in a sentence.

Coupled with a lot of practice the child will gradually learn the letter-word-sound awareness. This knowledge will help him/her to learn word families which will facilitate smooth reading and understanding. From this point onwards the kid is ready to start the early reader book series.

In this level the kid can be slowly introduced to the early reader book series.
