While local elections are often ill-attended, there are often some important people running for office. In one case, this would be Brad Buckley Texas House of Representatives. For, the candidate is up against the incumbent and while having a chance, the more people who can get out and vote, the better.
Having been inspired by a 4th grade teacher to become competitive at an early age, Brad vows to overcome what will most likely be a very tough competition in the March primary. For, not only is Mr. Buckley running for office, the other candidate is an incumbent in the same party. Still, the candidate hopes with strong ties to community and family, there is a chance of winning.
A 1985 graduate of Ellison High and the grandson of Leo Buckley, grandmother Roe Buckley and mother Lolly, the candidate is no stranger when it comes to working with the educational system. For, while Leo was a legendary coach and athletic director, his grandmother was the director at a local hospital and his mom, a teacher. As such, Brad has experience in a number of different areas of the community.
In fact, the candidate is the owner, operator and lead Veterinarian at a local clinic. As with family and ancestors, Brad hopes to remain involved in community efforts only on a much larger scale once elected. After which, a number of business, educational and infrastructure projects can hopefully be initiated, many which have been put on hold for years.
As a rather renown and beloved Veterinarian, Mr. Buckley has helped and saved a great number of animals from injury and illness. While this is the case, other than having strong ties to family and community, the candidate has little experience in the way of politics. As such, the battle to win against the incumbent is most likely going to be a difficult one.
While the board understands the need for the project, there are also several projects which the board had hoped to see begin in 2018 and 2019. These include, updating existing campuses so each meets disability compliance along with safety and security issues in that area. As these are changes are required by the State, it is not the construction of the high school that is in question but rather the cost of the project.
Most in the area would like to see a new high school for the student body. Still, there are others who believe the money can be spent better in different areas. For many, building new elementary and high schools during the same time-frame makes little sense, especially with budgetary restraints. As such, the school board may want to revamp which projects need take the highest priority regardless of which candidate wins the race.
While Mr. Buckley clearly deserves praise for playing an active role in the community, there remains some concern with regards to the school board and others. When it comes to the school board, it is a question as to whether the candidate, once elected, can obtain the funds necessary to begin and complete projects on a timely basis. Whereas, there are others in the local community whom are concerned as to what will happen with the Veterinary clinic which Mr. Buckley has owned and operated for years.
